Kauai Events and Mokihana Festival

0917mokihanaThe Kauai Mokihana Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary of bringing Hawaiian culture and values to the island. The non-profit Malie Foundation has deemed this the “Year of Hawaiian Music”, and events such as the Kauai Composers Contest and Concert, and the Hawaiian Instrumental Competition promote this theme. The mini-film festival will also feature Hawaiian composers.

Each event throughout the week (September 20 – 26) offers an opportunity to appreciate the Hawaiian Culture, including a three day hula competition, featuring both solo and group performers of Kahiko Nei (traditional contemporary) and Auana (modern). Hula dancers and halau from near and far will compete in many categories for cash prizes and recognition.

Come for the entire week and support the Hawaiian culture or select any event that fits your schedule. Some events are free. Most events have a $20 ticket price at the door, or $15 in advance (call 808-246-5515). Thank you for supporting the Hawaiian culture.
