Surfer Rob Machado
Rob Machado is a surfer, a goodwill ambassador, and a Drifter. He is not just one of the world’s greatest surfers, he’s a living icon who continues to expand the definition of what professional surfing is all about. Machado was ranked among the top ten surfers for eleven straight years and was inducted into the Surfers Hall of Fame in 2000 and re-inducted in 2006. He has 12 career WCT victories, and the deciding heat at Pipeline against Kelly Slater in 1995 remains one of the most dramatic showdowns in competitive surfing history.
But his contribution to the sport doesn’t end there. Since his departure from the ASP tour in 2001, Machado has been one of surfing’s most committed ambassadors, roaming the globe, and surfing the world’s best waves. He has established The Rob Machado Foundation, which supports various charities dedicated to environmental programs in Southern California through an annual golf tournament. His foundation also works closely with the Cardiff Education Foundation on efforts to help Machado’s hometown’s elementary schools. He has also created the Rob Machado Surf Experience, a highly anticipated surf contest for girls and boys 16 and under in Rob’s hometown of Cardiff-by-the Sea, Calif. Rob has also donated his time for an Indonesian well digging project, and for a contest that gave 500,000 kids the opportunity to come up with innovative ways to conserve water. He is true embodiment of style and aloha.
Throughout the last year he been working on ‘The Drifter’ which will be released soon. This movie chronicles a year of his travels primarily through Indo, and won best film at the Ombak Bali 2009 film festival.
