Kauai Golf and Kukui’ula Golf Club

The Kukui’ula Golf Course on Kauai is a private 18-hole championship course designed by British Open Winner Tom Weiskopf. The course follows the natural flow of the land through Kauai Golf and Kukui'ula Golf Club - Directory of Kauaithe coffee fields, meadows, and rolling hillsides of Kukui’ula. This 216-acre, par 72 course features panoramic ocean views, paspalum-turf, sand-plated fairways, and a landscaped filled with native flora. The golf clubhouse consists of a well-appointed golf shop, men’s and women’s locker rooms, expansive lanai seating and indoor lounging areas.

Kukui’ula is a 1,000 acre luxury community on the South Shore of Kaua’i. A private $100 million clubhouse serves as the social and recreational centerpiece of the community and includes the main clubhouse, known as The Plantation House. There is also an elaborate array of swimming pools, a community farm, and 20-acre fishing lake. The course complements the island’s rolling terrain, dramatic views, and thrilling trade winds. Players will face a different set of challenges and opportunities each time they play, but always require them to think their way around the course. Tee times are set aside each week for locals to play.

8 am – Interval Training. Bench step and jump rope for 3 minutes with 1 minute intervals of weight repetition.
9 am – Hula Aerobics. Hula is not only a dance of interpretations, but also the birth of body, mind and nature as they interconnect.
10:30 am – Electric Vinyasa Yoga. Flowing on a current of breath, student and instructor blend movement, mind, and spirit.

Na Lima Hana Festival 2011

Na Lima Hana Festival - Directory of KauaiThe Na Lima Hana Festival will provide hands-on demonstrations of Hawaii’s cultural traditions and health practices October 26 through 29, 2011. This year’s theme, kumu honua, means “learning by going back to the source.” All cultural and health practitioners will convey the original sources of their knowledge, explaining how a particular cultural skill, craft, practice or tradition was taught to them. The Na Lima Hana Festival combines Hawaiiana (Hawaiian cultural traditions) and Malama Ola (to take care of life – health practices).

Na Lima Hana means many hands working, as this four-day event presents a multitude of cultural and health practitioners offering activities, demonstrations, entertainment and learning experiences. Literally, many hands are working to teach and learn these fascinating skills. Learn about lei-making, weaving with endemic plants, uses of medicinal plants, salt-making, drum-making, lomilomi (traditional massage), lau hala weaving, kapa making, carving, ancient chants, hula kahiko and the uses of kalo (taro). Enjoy Hawaiian food and entertainment too. Or, participate in a series of health and fitness activities. Enjoy Hawaiian food and entertainment too. Many events are free of charge to the public. Events are located at the Grand Hyatt Kaua`i Resort and Spa is located in Poipu Beach.

Kauai Marathon 2011

Kauai Marathon - Directory of KauaiThe 2011 Kauai Marathon will take place on Sunday, September 4. The Kaua’i Marathon and Half Marathon begin in Poipu, at the sunny southern end of Kauai and run the first 11 miles together. The courses follow the contour of scenic coastline, offering magnificent views of the island’s picturesque beaches, rugged volcanic peaks, and green tropical rain forests. Runners will experience the shade of the century old Tunnel of Trees, and misty Omao where the half marathon enters Kukui’ula Resort offering spectacular ocean views for the last few miles. The full marathon heads out to Lawai before climbing to reveal stunning ocean views of sparkling blue water at the top of Kalaheo. The remaining miles are a gradual descent until runners receive a rousing island welcome upon their return to Poipu Beach and the white sand beaches.

The Kaua’i Marathon also has their “Surf to Sunset Carbo Load Luau” on Saturday, September 3. This amazing night features a delicious carbo feast of pastas, salads, seasonal tropical fruits, and desserts followed by an award-winning Polynesian luau show. Enjoy the traditions and pageantry of Hawaii while oceanfront on stunning Poipu Beach. Kauai’s tropical paradise will become the backdrop for this world class event, which will not only lead runners through one of the world’s most beautiful marathon courses, but will donate net proceeds to local charities dedicated to preserving the island’s natural beauty.
