Vans Triple Crown of Surfing

All indicators point toward a record year for the 27th annual Vans Triple Crown of Surfing on Oahu’s North Shore, Hawaii. The Series of three men’s and three women’s Association of Surfing Professionals sanctioned events will run from November 12 through December 20, 2009.

The world’s top-rated mens surfers have signed on for all three events in a battle for surfing’s coveted Vans Triple Crown title and the ASP world title. Starting out at the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa will be Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Adriano De Souza, CJ Hobgood, and Bede Durbidge.

Sixteen of the top 17 rated women will contest all three events of the women’s Series, including Stephanie Gilmore, Silvana Lima, Sofia Mulanovich, Coco Ho, and Melanie Bartels. The women’s Series begins with the Vans Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa, where the top ladies will be joined by four wildcards.

For the first time ever, the 2009 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing events will be available live on television across Hawaii . Oceanic Time Warner Cable will broadcast all three events in their entirety, live on digital ch.250. The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing will also start the first of a multi-year green initiative by promoting recycling, compostable food packaging, and merchandise packaging.
